Getting there

The Drive In

Lily Prairie is the largest staging area in the John's Peak system, about 15 minutes outside of Jacksonville. The final stretch is 3.5 miles of winding dirt road in great shape. The drive-in video walks you through what to expect, especially if you're towing.

The Road In

3.5 miles of winding dirt road. Watch this if you're pulling a trailer or just like to be over-prepared.

Before you ride

Trail Maps

John's Peak has a huge network of trails. Download the Motorcycle Riders Association maps in Avenza before you arrive (cell service at the peak is unreliable).

What to bring

Recommended Packing List

None of this is required. If you're an avid camper, you already know what you need. If dirt bike events are new to you, use this as inspiration to make sure nothing important gets left at home.

  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Camp chair
  • Headlamp
  • Layers (cool nights, warm days)

Riding gear

  • Helmet
  • Goggles
  • Boots
  • Gloves

  • Pants
  • Hydration pack

Bike supplies

  • Gas (no fuel on site)
  • Spare tubes
  • Tire irons
  • Basic tools
  • Chain lube
  • Zip ties
  • Duct tape

Personal

  • More water than you think you need
  • Snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Small first aid kit
  • Phone charger or power bank

For the vibes

  • Neon Rodeo outfit for Saturday night

Pre-event

Recommended Bike Prep

Also not required. Just a helpful list to run through before you leave so you don't lose any of your weekend to bike downtime.

  • Tires inflated and inspected
  • Chain cleaned and lubed
  • Fluids topped (oil, coolant, brake)
  • Air filter clean
  • Bolts torqued
  • Brake pads checked
  • Throttle and clutch action smooth
  • Lights and kill switch functional
  • Spare parts packed in your kit (lever, tubes, chain links)

Not sure about any of this? Your local shop can run through it in an hour. Better to catch it now than at camp.
